Hey! I read this and found that highly relevant for this site. Basically it's about how Social Media inherently rewards "clickbait" and how it always devolves to a race to the bottom. andrewperlot.substack.com/p/why-all-roads-lead-to-porn-an…? utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=72hz5v So I started wondering. How can a social media page reward quality and weed out substandard posts? How and who decides what is a quality post? I didn't really come up with a solution but I have one idea floating around my head -> At least AI could flag content that's highly likely to be garbage e.g. conspiracy theory, clickbaity etc.. Yet, i find this very difficult to solve, anyone got an idea?

A very common problem. I have this too at my newspaper pesterlloyd.net - my solution is to completely skip the process of trying to optimize for clicks. I could bow down to Google and write more SEO-Optimzed clickbaits, but I do not want. I think this is recognized by a quality audience and they like the PL exactly for this reason: because it does not bait something it does not deliver. The problem Overall is indeed more complex - how to really decentivize brainrot shorts, for example and ragebaits. I am thinking that for Vise we could even allow to tag something as clickbait/brainrot/ragebait so the Algo can pick it up easily and whoever does not like that, will not see it thus - if people tag it with their reactions. One way we already do that breaks a bit this bad paradigm is to include a 🤮 emoji - because some content just makes you feel this way - but it's not ideal for a overly shallow audience as other social medias optimize for. Vise does not care: truth over "feeling good".

In my opinion a part of the solution is in the community aspect. If content of your local network counts more destructive content get shut down more easily. I co-founded Vise to give people back the communities and to fight for social networks that reward destructive business models. This tackles the problems of the destructive power of click and view optimisation Silicon Valley brought on us.
